🚨 Spoiler Alert!

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’m about to spill all the twists and turns. Proceed at your own risk.

🀩 My Thoughts

Y’ALL. I LOVED THIS BOOK.
It’s that perfect mix of easy to follow, super bingeable, and just the right amount of twists to keep you hooked without making your brain hurt. It’s like Mary Kubica said, “Here, have a thriller that actually delivers.”

πŸ“ The Plot (Spoilers ahead!)

Say hello to Meghan, a single mom and ICU nurse in Chicago who’s just trying to do her job and keep her kid alive. Things kick off when Caitlin is wheeled into the ICU after jumping off a bridge. Suicide? Maybe. But also… maybe not.

πŸ‘‰ Meghan gets assigned as Caitlin’s nurse after bonding with Caitlin’s super sweet, super present parents. Everything seems normal (or as normal as caring for someone who tried to off themselves can be). Meanwhile, there’s a serial killer on the loose in Chicago. Casual.

πŸ‘‰ Meghan reconnects with Nat, an old high school friend who looks like she’s been through it — bruises, a sad story about an abusive partner, the whole deal. Being the kind soul she is, Meghan lets Nat move in to keep her safe. And, of course, spills her secrets: like how her ex Ben isn’t actually her daughter Sienna’s father.

πŸ‘‰ But Nat? TOTAL SCAMMER. She steals Meghan’s wedding and engagement rings, plus cons her out of cash. And the book is all, “Surprise! That wasn’t Nat.” The real Nat died 19 years ago in a car crash. This chick? She’s actually Caitlin — yep, the ICU patient Meghan’s been caring for.

πŸ‘‰ Flashback time: Before Caitlin’s bridge dive, she and Meghan had a massive fight. Caitlin (posing as Nat) was wearing Meghan’s stolen wedding ring, and Meghan demanded it back. Caitlin chucked it at her, they tussled, and Meghan pushed her off the bridge. Oops.

πŸ‘‰ Now, back in the ICU, Caitlin’s improving, which is bad news for Meghan because hello — attempted murder. So, Meghan does what any totally stable ICU nurse would do and injects Caitlin with another patient’s meds, killing her off and covering her tracks. Smooth.

πŸ‘‰ Just when Meghan thinks life might calm down, her co-worker Luke asks her out for drinks. During small talk, she mentions her daughter Sienna is home alone. Luke suddenly has somewhere to be. Uh oh. Turns out: Luke is the serial killer. He’s been watching for his chance to target Sienna.

πŸ‘‰ Meghan + cops + Luke’s wife race to save Sienna. The police take out Luke (RIP creepy nurse), and Sienna and Meghan have a sweet, bonding moment after the chaos.

πŸ‘‰ Final twist? Ben returns Meghan’s engagement ring, acting like he doesn’t know how it ended up at his house. Turns out, Caitlin and Ben were a team all along, working together to scam Meghan.

🌟 What Worked & What Didn’t

PacingSO fast, so good.
Twists — The right amount, at the right time.
Easy to follow — No unnecessary confusion.
Final twist — A little soap opera-ish, but honestly? I ate it up.
