๐ Overview of Part of Your World
Part of Your World by by Abby Jimenez is marketed as a romantic comedy, but let me tell you right now… this book is also a deep emotional gut punch.
Yes, there’s romance. Yes, there are cute moments.
But underneath all of that? This story is about breaking cycles, escaping abuse, and finding the courage to choose yourself.
And WOW… did it hit hard.
๐ญ My Personal Reaction (AKA: I Was Not Emotionally Prepared)
I didn’t just tear up.
I didn’t just sniffle.
I CRIED. LIKE. A. BABY. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
This one hit way too close to home for me. Alexis’s situation—the controlling father, the pressure to stay in a relationship, the inability to leave even when you KNOW it’s wrong… yeah. I’ve lived that.
Her father? Painfully familiar.
Her hesitation? Completely real.
Her feeling of being trapped between expectation vs. freedom? Spot on.
I didn’t find my way out until after my own father passed, and that layer of this story made everything feel raw, real, and honestly a little too accurate.
So while I do have some critiques (we’ll get there ๐), emotionally?
This book landed like a wrecking ball.

๐ Full Plot Summary (Spoilers Included)
๐ The Meet-Cute That Starts It All
Alexis Montgomery—wealthy ER doctor, emotionally trapped daughter of a powerful family—literally gets stuck in a ditch in a small town.
Enter Daniel Grant: small-town mayor, cinnamon roll human, and basically the anti-toxic male.
They meet. They flirt. They fake leaving a bar together.
And then… they actually leave together ๐
Alexis, fresh out of an abusive relationship, was NOT planning to hook up.
But… she does.
Immediately after learning he’s almost 10 years younger?
She panics and sneaks out.
Classic.
๐ Two Worlds, One Impossible Relationship
They can’t stop thinking about each other (because of course they can’t ๐ญ).
But here’s the problem:
Alexis = wealthy, legacy-driven, controlled life in Minneapolis
Daniel = small-town, emotionally healthy, golden retriever energy ๐ถ
She insists it can’t be serious.
Meanwhile, back in her real life:
Her parents are controlling and manipulative
Her ex, Neil, is abusive, cheating, and STILL in her life
She works at the family hospital, where leaving = betrayal
Basically, Alexis is living in a gilded cage.
๐ง The Emotional Core: Why She Can’t Leave
This is what the book absolutely NAILED.
Alexis KNOWS:
Neil is toxic
Her parents are emotionally abusive
Her life isn’t hers
And yet… she can’t break free.
Because:
Family expectations are crushing
Her identity is tied to legacy
She’s been conditioned her entire life
This part? Brutally realistic.
๐ก Falling for Daniel (Even When She Shouldn’t)
She keeps going back to Wakan.
Keeps going back to Daniel.
And Daniel?
He is steady, kind, emotionally available, and actually respects her (bare minimum king, but we love him for it ๐).
Their relationship grows—but Alexis keeps one foot out the door the entire time.
๐ฌ The Breaking Point
Everything comes to a head when Daniel shows up to her big hospital event.
Also present:
Her awful parents
Her abusive ex
Her snobby friends
Basically… her worst nightmare audience.
She admits Daniel is her boyfriend… but the reaction (especially from her father) makes Daniel feel like a joke.
He leaves.
She breaks up with him.
And honestly? You feel it coming. And it still hurts.
๐ฅ The Turning Point (FINALLY)
Alexis spirals without him (as expected).
Her best friend Bri comes in clutch and basically says:
“Hey… your priorities are a mess.”
And THIS is where Alexis finally does the thing we’ve been begging her to do for 300 pages:
๐ She stands up to her father
๐ She rejects the family legacy
๐ She chooses HERSELF
At the hospital gala, she announces:
She’s leaving the prestigious family hospital
She’s starting a free clinic in Wakan
Cue emotional breakdown #47 ๐ญ
❤️ The Ending (Yes, It’s HEA)
Daniel shows up (thank GOD).
She apologizes.
She chooses him.
They reconcile.
Fast forward:
They’re married ๐
Living in Wakan ๐ก
Alexis is pregnant ๐คฐ
And they’ve decided their child will choose their OWN path (breaking the cycle ๐ฅ)
๐ค My One Critique (And It’s a Small One… Kinda)
Okay. Let’s talk about it.
I am NOT usually a fan of:
๐ Insta-love vibes
๐ “We’ve known each other for 5 minutes, let’s get married” energy
And yeah… this book leans into that a bit.
Daniel and Alexis move FAST emotionally, especially given how complicated her life is.
BUT.
And this is important…
๐ The emotional journey of Alexis?
๐ The abuse dynamics?
๐ The family pressure?
Those were so real that I honestly didn’t care as much about the romance pacing.
๐ญ Final Thoughts
This isn’t just a romance.
It’s a story about:
Breaking free from toxic family systems
Recognizing abuse
Choosing yourself—even when it costs everything
And if you’ve ever been in a situation where leaving felt impossible…
This book is going to hit you HARD.
⭐ Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Even with my small critiques, this was a 5-star emotional experience for me.
It’s not perfect.
But it’s powerful, personal, and unforgettable.
