The Liar's Wife by Kiersten Modglin

πŸ“š The Liar’s Wife by Kiersten Modglin – Full Review

⭐ 1 out of 5 stars | Psychological Thriller / Domestic Suspense

🚨 Spoiler Alert!

If you’re hoping for surprises, stop reading now — I’m laying it all out for you. Because honestly? The twists weren’t exactly earth-shattering anyway.

🀦‍♀️ What Did I Just Listen To?

Yikes. This was laughably bad. I don’t say that lightly. The storyline had potential, but between the repetitive writing, endless filler, and what felt like zero proofreading (seriously, I cringed for the poor narrator of the audiobook), I was left wondering how this one made it to print.

πŸ“ The Plot (with all the spoilers!)

We’ve got Palmer, a young mom who suspects her husband Ben is cheating on her. Naturally, she does what any good thriller protagonist would do — she starts snooping for evidence.

And what happens? BOOM — Ben, their baby Gray, and the supposed side chick all go missing. Palmer spirals, and we’re off to the races.

πŸ‘‰ The Big Twist: Turns out, Ben wasn’t sneaking off with a mistress. He was secretly meeting up with his ex-wife, Kat. Why? Because Kat is still grieving their child, who died thanks to a drunk driver, and is unable to have more kids. Kat never healed from the tragedy, and when Ben moved on and accidentally got Palmer pregnant, Kat lost what was left of her grip on reality.

πŸ‘‰ Kat convinces Ben to show her baby Gray, and let’s just say — bad idea. Kat snaps, kidnaps both Ben and Gray, and holds them captive.

πŸ‘‰ After what feels like forever (and several repetitive chapters later), Ben manages to kill Kat and escape.

πŸ‘‰ Palmer, understandably fed up with all the lies, decides to take a break from Ben.

πŸ‘‰ But wait — cue ex-boyfriend Nathan, who cheated on Palmer once upon a time, popping back into her life, trying to win her back.

πŸ‘‰ Ben walks in, sees Nathan at Palmer’s place, and recognizes him as the drunk driver who killed his and Kat’s child. Because hey, why not throw in another unbelievable coincidence?

πŸ‘‰ Ben kills Nathan, supposedly to protect Palmer and Gray from any potential harm.

😬 What Didn’t Work For Me

  • Repetitive writing — felt like the same thoughts and conversations on loop.

  • No editing? The audiobook narration made the sloppy writing even more noticeable.

  • Twists that felt forced — the drunk driver reveal? Come on.

  • Characters that felt flat — I didn’t care what happened to anyone by the end.

✅ Read This If You Like:

  • Over-the-top domestic suspense

  • Stories about lies, secrets, and family drama

  • Fast, popcorn-style reads (even if they’re not well written)

πŸ’‘ My Final Take

1 out of 5 stars. A plot that could’ve been fun, but buried under bad writing and eye-roll-worthy twists.
