π Overview
Oh this book? This book is drama with a body count π
Who to Believe is a multi-POV, small-town mystery where literally everyone is lying, cheating, or hiding something… and sometimes all three at once. Add in a possible serial killer, a suspicious death, and a whole cast of morally questionable people—and you’ve got chaos in the best way.
We’re in the town of Monreith, where one murder quickly spirals into MANY… and figuring out the truth becomes a full-time job.
π§ Plot Breakdown (Spoilers, Obviously)
π§⚕️ Part I: The Shrink — Farley Drake
We start with psychiatrist Farley Drake, who immediately gives off “something is off here” vibes π¬
He’s treating Alice Stone, who says she’s “frightened”
He’s secretly living with Richard Macomber after blowing up Richard’s marriage π
He has a weird savior complex… like, really weird
Then—plot twist π₯
Farley discovers that Damian Stone (Alice’s husband) is investigating a serial killer…
π And that serial killer is Farley himself
Yes. Our therapist is out here:
Killing people
Staging it as suicide
Calling it helping people
π©π©π©
He decides the only solution?
A “bloodbath” (his words, not mine π³)
π Part II: The Patient — Alice Stone
Alice is dealing with:
Her husband’s affair (with murder victim Laurel π)
A growing attraction to Max, the police chief
A VERY suspicious burner phone
Then things go sideways FAST:
π± She gets a message: “Meet me at the dock”
π§️ Goes out in a storm
π Finds Farley dead
Casual.
π Part III: The Cop — Max Barbosa
Max is trying to investigate but:
He’s emotionally entangled with… basically everyone π
He finds Alice standing over Farley’s body
Farley is dressed like a literal attacker (mask + knife π³)
Max realizes:
π Farley was the serial killer
π But something still doesn’t add up
Also:
π΄ Damian dies in a suspicious “cycling accident”
(You already know it’s not just an accident)
π Part IV: The Boyfriend — Richard Macomber
Richard is:
Stuck in a controlling relationship with Farley
Still tangled in his past with his ex-wife Georgia
Then:
Farley dies
Damian threatens Richard
Damian ALSO dies
π And guess who gets arrested?
π Richard
This man cannot catch a break.
π§ Part V: The Daughter — Chloe Macomber
Chloe might be the quiet MVP of this whole mess π
Finds the burner phone
Hides it
Sneaks around like a tiny detective
Witnesses her mom (Georgia) acting VERY suspiciously π
Eventually, she does what the adults won’t:
π She tells the truth
We love a brave kid π₯Ή
⛪ Part VI: The Minister — Georgia Fitzhugh
And HERE is where everything explodes π₯
Georgia reveals:
π SHE killed Laurel Thibodeau
Laurel was stealing from church members
Laurel threatened to expose Georgia’s affair
Georgia suffocated her and framed Farley π³
π SHE killed Damian Stone
He was getting too close to the truth
She ran him off the road ππ
So now we’ve got:
A serial killer (Farley)
A separate murderer (Georgia)
Two killers. Same town. What are the odds?!
πΆ Part VII: The Dog — Harper (yes, really π)
Three months later…
Georgia is in jail
Max and Alice are living together (π messy but okay)
Everyone thinks Georgia killed Farley too
BUT NOPE.
Final twist:
π Alice killed Farley
What actually happened:
Farley attacked her with a knife
She hit him with a croquet mallet
Dumped the weapon in the bay
And the cherry on top?
π The dog finds the mallet at the end
I’m sorry… a DOG solving the final clue??
I loved it π
π€― What Makes This Book Work
Multiple POVs (even a dog π)
Constant shifting suspicion
Everyone is messy = no boring characters
Twists that actually connect (not random chaos)
Yes, it’s a LOT to keep track of… but that’s part of the fun. You’re constantly asking:
π Wait… who do I believe??
π My Thoughts
This book is:
Wild
Messy
Slightly unhinged (in a good way)
I had so much fun trying to piece everything together while also side-eyeing every single character.
Was it a little chaotic? Yes.
Did I occasionally need to mentally rewind? Also yes.
Did I enjoy the ride? ABSOLUTELY.
And honestly… any book bold enough to give me a dog POV finale reveal deserves respect πΆπ
⭐ Rating: 4 Stars
A twisty, drama-filled mystery packed with secrets, lies, and overlapping crimes. Not perfect—but seriously entertaining.
