😂 My Quick Take

Oh my gosh, what a sweet and funny romantic story!! This book had everything I love — travel adventures, puzzle-solving, bickering, tension, laughter, AND that swoony enemies-to-lovers slow-burn payoff.

And that ending twist?! Rosaline being in love with Josh??? I literally gasped. Did anyone else see that coming? I didn’t! This was such a heartfelt, emotional yet hilarious read, and I was hooked the entire time. Easily 5 out of 5 stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

📖 Overview

P.S. I Hate You (2024) by Lauren Connolly is a romantic comedy with heart that balances grief, rediscovery, and vulnerability with laugh-out-loud banter and road trip charm. Maddie Sanderson, still grieving the loss of her brother Josh, is tasked with fulfilling his final wish: scattering his ashes across the eight U.S. states he never visited.

But Josh has one last trick up his sleeve—she has to do it with Dominic Perry, his best friend…and the guy who once shattered her heart.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning — Full Plot Summary

Maddie, still raw from her brother Josh’s death, is blindsided when his will pairs her with Dom—his best friend and her one-time flame who later married someone else (Rosaline). Together, they embark on a state-hopping journey, scattering Josh’s ashes while following letters with his specific (and often quirky) instructions.

At first, it’s tense—grief, old wounds, unresolved feelings—but gradually, through adventures in Delaware, Alabama, Kansas, Arizona, and beyond, they bond again. They get tattoos, share secrets, face regrets, and finally give into their attraction in South Dakota.

Their relationship deepens through texts, shared hikes, and emotional revelations. Maddie learns Dom is divorced, and he slowly confesses he’s always loved her. But insecurity and Maddie’s difficulty with vulnerability cause cracks—especially when Dom misses a flight because of Rosaline, triggering Maddie’s fear that history is repeating itself.

Josh’s letters continue to push them to open up, culminating in one that asks Dom to speak and Maddie to listen. Dom admits his marriage was a mistake, driven by obligation, and that he never stopped loving Maddie. Determined, he moves to Seattle to prove he’s there for her.

Their final journey to Alaska brings a shocking twist: Rosaline reveals that she and Josh had been in love during his final year. Maddie is floored—but instead of anger, she chooses compassion, giving Rosaline the remaining ashes so she can honor Josh in her own way.

The story closes with Maddie and Dom fully embracing their love, Maddie finally shedding her emotional armor, and both of them honoring Josh’s memory by revisiting the journey with loved ones. 💔✨

🤔 Final Thoughts

This book gave me ALL the feels: grief, love, laughter, longing. It’s funny, emotional, swoony, and deeply human. The travel element + puzzle-like letters gave it such a unique structure, and Maddie and Dom’s journey was so satisfying.

I’m obsessed. 💕 This is easily one of my favorite romantic comedies of the year.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)
