🗼 The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
A Locked Room Mystery with Croissants, Creepy Neighbors & a Whole Lotta Secrets
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 out of 5 stars)
Let me start by saying this: I devoured this book like a fresh pain au chocolat. And if you’ve ever read a Lucy Foley book before, you already know what to expect—murder, secrets, unreliable narrators, and a rotating cast of people who all look suspicious and need therapy.
But The Paris Apartment?
This one had me guessing all the way until the last page, gasping like I'd just walked up five flights of Parisian stairs with no elevator.
Let’s break it down.
🧳 The Setup: Jess Needs a Break (Don’t We All)
Our girl Jess Hadley needs to escape her messy life in England (been there). She quits her crummy job, grabs a bag, and heads to Paris to crash with her half-brother Ben Daniels, a journalist who just moved into a gorgeous, bougie apartment.
Except... plot twist: Ben is missing.
Like, she shows up at his apartment, and the guy is just... gone. No note. No croissant crumbs. Just a weird tension hanging in the air—and some seriously sketchy neighbors.
🏢 The Building: It's Giving… Murder Mansion Vibes
Ben’s apartment is in this suspiciously quiet, creepily elegant building in the heart of Paris. Think Hitchcock meets HGTV.
Jess starts to poke around and meets the neighbors, and let me tell you: they’re ALL weird.
We’ve got:
-
Sophie – Cold, elegant, mysterious. Probably drinks red wine while watching people through windows.
-
Antoine – Angry, alcoholic, classic bad energy.
-
Mimi – Young, strange, and possibly not as fragile as she seems.
-
Nick – Charming. Too charming. Red flag alert 🚩
-
The Concierge – Knows everything, says nothing. Classic.
Everyone seems to have something to hide… especially when Jess finds signs that Ben may not have left willingly.
🔍 The Investigation: Jess Goes Full Nancy Drew (But in French)
Jess, with the instincts of a suspicious little sister and the subtlety of a wrecking ball, starts digging.
She finds:
-
A voicemail from Ben begging someone for help.
-
Clues in his apartment that someone’s been inside after she arrived.
-
A secret wine cellar (because of course this place has a wine cellar) that seems way too convenient for hiding bodies. 🍷
And just when you think you’ve figured it out—BAM! Lucy Foley throws a twist harder than a Parisian waiter judging your French.
😱 The Big Reveal: No Spoilers… But Also Yes, Some Spoilers
Turns out this building is hiding WAY more than just overpriced real estate. There's a whole secret past involving trafficking, deceit, family betrayal, and some seriously disturbing connections.
Ben had uncovered a dark truth about the building’s owners—and that’s why he went missing.
The people Jess trusted the most?
Yeah. They’re the ones with the most to hide. 🫣
The final twist made me audibly say “WHAT?!” while holding the book like it had personally betrayed me.
(And I loved it.)
✍️ Writing Style: Atmospheric AF
Lucy Foley’s writing is like drinking a glass of merlot on a foggy balcony: elegant, moody, and kind of addictive.
The alternating POVs keep you on your toes. Every time I thought, “Aha! I’ve figured it out!” the book would go, “lol no.”
Chef’s kiss to the pacing and suspense.
🤔 Final Thoughts
Did I love this book?
Oui. Absolutely oui.

5 out of 5 stars for the ride, the reveals, and the general what-the-heck-is-happening energy that kept me flipping pages until 2 a.m.
