💍 Maybe Now by Colleen Hoover – The Perfect Ending to a Beautiful Love Story
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars
Genre: Romance / Contemporary Fiction
Themes: Illness, new beginnings, friendship, forgiveness, love, and legacy
If Maybe Someday pulled you in, and Maybe Not made you laugh, then Maybe Now will leave you grinning through tears. Colleen Hoover absolutely delivers in this heartwarming, funny, and deeply emotional conclusion to the Maybe series. We’re reunited with Sydney, Ridge, Warren, and Bridgette, but this time, we get a much deeper look at Maggie—a character who totally deserves her moment in the spotlight—and the new man who unexpectedly turns her world upside down: Jake.
✈️ Maggie's Bucket List... and a Freefall Into Love
The book kicks off with Maggie, living life on her own terms. After her painful breakup with Ridge, she’s focusing on living boldly despite her serious health conditions: cystic fibrosis and Type 1 diabetes. Her bucket list includes everything from traveling to skydiving to one-night stands—and she’s determined to cross them off before her time runs out.
At the skydiving center, Maggie meets Jake, who just happens to be a doctor. The chemistry is immediate. And even though he knows about her medical condition (thanks to her paperwork), he’s intrigued, not scared.
They go to dinner. Maggie, not ready for another heartbreak, proposes a no-strings-attached night together. Jake agrees—but he’s not exactly the “one night” kind of guy.
🥞 Breakfast, Regret, and Second Chances
The next morning, Jake makes her breakfast. 🍳
Maggie? She panics. Emotional detachment is her safety blanket. She kicks him out.
But Maggie can’t stop thinking about him—and soon finds herself conveniently scheduling a doctor’s appointment at his clinic. When Jake sees her again, sparks fly. They share a passionate kiss… and Maggie collapses.
She wakes up in the hospital. Ridge and Warren show up, and there’s real concern from everyone—especially Ridge. Despite their complicated history, he still cares deeply about her. He’s furious about her carelessness, and it’s clear Maggie isn’t being diligent with her treatments or equipment.
Eventually, Maggie agrees to move back into Ridge and Sydney’s apartment, where she’ll be surrounded by people who love her. Even if it's awkward. Even if it’s painful.
🎶 Music, Friendships, and the Ring That Started It All
Meanwhile, Sydney and Ridge are stronger than ever, both as a couple and as musical partners. They continue writing songs together, and their emotional intimacy is on full display. It’s soft. It’s romantic. It’s everything CoHo fans crave.
Sydney also grows surprisingly close with Maggie and Bridgette. The female friendships in this book are a huge highlight—supportive, funny, and refreshingly honest.
Then Sydney stumbles upon an engagement ring in Ridge’s drawer. Cue the spiral! But it turns out… it’s not for her.
The ring belonged to Maggie’s grandparents, and Ridge has been holding onto it for years, unsure what to do. After some thought (and an incredibly mature moment), Sydney suggests Ridge give it to Jake so he can propose to Maggie himself. It’s such a selfless, healing gesture—and shows how far Sydney and Maggie have come.
🎤 One Epic Concert... and THREE Surprise Proposals
At a Sounds of Cedar concert, the whole crew goes together—Ridge, Sydney, Warren, Bridgette, Maggie, and Jake. Mid-show, Sydney surprises everyone by performing a song she wrote for Ridge. Though she had told him the night before that she wasn’t ready for marriage, the song says otherwise.
Cue the teasing. Everyone's joking about engagements now.
-
Warren, being Warren, insists he should go first—his relationship is the longest.
-
Bridgette, in full savage mode, says Maggie should go first—she might not have as long.
-
Maggie jokes she’ll need a “real ring” first.
Jake RUNS to the car, grabs the heirloom ring Ridge gave him, and drops to one knee. With no plan and no speech prepared, he delivers a heartfelt, spontaneous proposal—and Maggie says YES.
But Warren isn’t about to be outdone. He pulls out a ring too, gets down on one knee (after Bridgette reminds him), and proposes. She says yes!
And finally, Ridge, with a grin, turns to Sydney and pops the question too. She agrees—three couples, three proposals, one unforgettable night.
👶 A Sweet Ending and a New Beginning
The story closes on a deeply emotional note: Sydney is pregnant, and she’s writing to her unborn child about this beautiful, messy, miraculous love story that brought them here.
Everyone is happy. Everyone is healing. And most importantly, everyone is moving forward, with love at the center.
❤️ Final Thoughts: Maybe Now Is Definitely the Happily Ever After We Deserved
Colleen Hoover did not disappoint with this one. Maybe Now gives every character their moment—especially Maggie, who transforms from a peripheral figure into one of the most compelling and emotionally resonant characters in the series.
It’s sweet, swoony, sad, and so satisfying.
Perfect for readers who:
