Every Last Secret by A. R. Torre
Every Last Secret is a psychological thriller written by A. R. Torre. This was a very interesting story and I enjoyed reading it!
Every Last Secret tells the story of two married couples that live next door to each other. First couple is Catherine (Cat) and William Winthorpe. They are wealthy and William is the owner of Winthorpe Technologies. Next is their neighbor, Matt and Neena Ryder. Neena works for William. Matt and Neena purchased the house next door that is a foreclosure - the original owners left quickly due to tax evasion. Cat doesn't like Neena right off the bat - she can tell Neena is not to be trusted. Neena was sexually abused by her father growing up. Matt who was a neighbor came to rescue and killed her father. They buried him in the backyard and got away with murder.
Neena envies Cat's wealth and social status. Neena always wants to climb higher on the social ladder, using whatever means possible, usually by seducing men. She got involved with her last boss (Ned Plymouth) and blackmailed him for $1 million. Now she wants to get involved with William, so she can either replace Cat or blackmail him.
In the meanwhile, Cat knows what Neena is about, and is setting things up to frame Neena with. It's a total cat and mouse game (pun intended) so it's quite fun. Eventually Cat wins (she's the cat after all), and Neena loses everything, both professionally and personally.
Lots of shocking twists in this book, for example - William knows Cat has been framing Neena for everything but chooses to do nothing. William only wished she had assigned him some of the tasks instead of going at it alone.
At the end of the book, after completely ruining Neena, Cat purchases Neena's old house (where her father is buried in the backyard) and gifts it to Neena - reminding her that she shouldn't want anyone else to own the property in case they decide to dig for a swimming pool or something. A total power move.
Great book. Love the twists. I'll be looking for more books from this author.
