π₯ The Crash by Freida McFadden – Book Review
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½ 3.5 out of 5 stars
A chaotic mess in the best way—just maybe not Freida's tightest work.

π Buckle Up—Here Comes the Plot
Tegan is broke, pregnant, and exhausted, which honestly would be enough drama for one book. But Freida McFadden had other plans. Tegan’s car crashes in the middle of nowhere, and she’s rescued by Hank, a guy who lives off the grid with his wife Polly.
Now, Polly is the kind of woman who would offer you tea while secretly plotting to steal your unborn baby, so Tegan’s nightmare is only just beginning.
As Tegan recovers, memories start returning. Most importantly: her pregnancy is the result of rape—and the rapist is Simon, (unbeknownst to her, is also her brother’s shady business partner.) Her brother, Dennis, knew all about it and decided to side with Simon because, well… priorities. And money.
Together, Simon and Dennis decide it would be best to, you know, kill her. So they sabotage her car, which caused her to crash. (Nice.)
π©Ί Enter Polly’s Homemade Maternity Ward
Instead of taking Tegan to the hospital, Polly is like, “Let’s just deliver the baby here in our rustic cabin with no running water or medical license!” Hank eventually grows a conscience (yay, Hank!) and drives Tegan to the hospital just in time to save her life.
But danger still lurks. Dennis shows up at the hospital to finish the job—but in a surprise twist, Polly is also there to steal the baby. Polly steps in to stop Dennis from killing Tegan. Girl may be unstable, but at least she’s got maternal instincts.
π And Then Came Jackson...
Simon’s henchman, Jackson, is your classic morally gray minion who accidentally falls for the strong, resilient woman he was supposed to destroy. (We’ve all read that Wattpad arc.) He chooses love over murder, and he and Tegan ride off into the sunset—metaphorically speaking.
Meanwhile, we learn that Polly’s husband Hank killed their abusive neighbor, and they adopted the neighbor’s daughter, Sadie. Sadie totally saw Hank murder her dad but decided to keep it quiet. Honestly, at this point in the book, who hasn’t committed a felony?
Tegan never tells anyone about Polly and Hank’s whole baby-stealing phase. Probably because… same. When someone saves your life after trying to steal your kid, it’s complicated.
π€ Final Thoughts
This book had every possible soap opera plotline jammed into 300 pages, and I kind of loved it for that. Sure, it needed a little more polish (there were some editing hiccups and repetitive lines), and yes, I saw the twists coming from a mile away (Dennis is sus from page 1), but it still kept me flipping pages.
Tegan is tough. Jackson is soft. Polly is wild. And I would never want to deliver a baby anywhere near a log cabin.
