Bared to You by Sylvia Day

⭐ 2.5 out of 5 stars | All the usual romance tropes, nothing fresh

💭 My Honest Take

I don’t read much romance, and Bared to You reminded me why. It’s not that it’s badly written — it’s just exactly what I expect from this genre, with no surprises, no twists on the formula.

We’ve got:
✅ A super-rich, devastatingly handsome man (Gideon Cross)
✅ A beautiful, damaged woman (Eva Tramell)
✅ Ridiculous, instant, off-the-charts physical chemistry
✅ A whole lot of emotional baggage
✅ Wealth, power, and endless sex

That’s the whole thing. Their traumas make them “deep,” but honestly, their story felt over-the-top and unrealistic, and at times I found myself rolling my eyes.

To be fair, the book is readable — it moves quickly — but I just couldn’t connect. And the fact that Gideon’s backstory is dangled like a carrot for future books? That felt cheap. If I’m going to sit through hundreds of pages of angst and sex, give me some answers!

📝 The Plot

The story kicks off in NYC. Eva Tramell, 24, has just moved from San Diego and is starting a new job at an ad agency. On her first day, she bumps into a jaw-droppingly handsome man who helps her up. That’s Gideon Cross, billionaire owner of the building. Instant attraction.

Over the next few days, Eva keeps running into Gideon. He’s blunt about wanting her, but she’s hesitant — he’s intense, controlling, and a little bit scary.

Eventually, though, she gives in. They make a deal — sex, no dating — but that quickly crumbles. The chemistry is too powerful. They fall into an obsessive, emotionally fraught relationship full of jealousy, miscommunication, and, of course, lots of sex.

Both characters come with serious baggage. Eva opens up about her past sexual abuse at the hands of her stepbrother. Gideon, meanwhile, stays tight-lipped about his own trauma, though it’s clear something dark haunts him. (Spoiler: he has nightmares, sleepwalks, and nearly assaults Eva in his sleep — a scene that’s honestly disturbing.)

Eva meets Gideon’s family, clashes with his ex-fiancée, and battles her own insecurities. They fight. They make up. They attend therapy. There’s drama with Eva’s best friend Cary, who’s caught in his own spiral of self-destruction.

By the end, Gideon declares his love for Eva, they start to build a future together, and — of course — we’re left hanging on Gideon’s big secret, which you’ll have to read future books to uncover.

🌟 Final Thoughts

✅ Quick, steamy read
✅ Captures the appeal of tortured-lovers tropes
⚠️ Feels like every other billionaire romance out there
⚠️ Unrealistic emotional beats and a lot of recycled drama
