💬 My Thoughts
Let me tell you something. I turned this audiobook on… and I never stopped.
Now, yes — that’s the beauty of audiobooks. I can still grab a snack, fold laundry, even run errands while listening. So technically, I multitasked my way through Ruthless Creatures… but mentally? I was glued. I didn’t pause. Not once.
This book completely owned me from the first chapter. It’s the perfect kind of guilty pleasure — dark, steamy, fast-paced, and a little bit bonkers in all the right ways. The writing isn’t pretending to be literary fiction — and that’s exactly what makes it so satisfying.
Is the love story predictable? Oh, absolutely.
Did I care? Not even a little bit.
Because sometimes, you just need a hot Russian mafia enforcer with emotional depth and a heroine who’s brave enough to love him anyway. 💣
🧠 Overview
Published in 2021, Ruthless Creatures by J.T. Geissinger kicks off the Queens & Monsters series — a mix of dark romance, mafia drama, erotic chaos, and laugh-out-loud moments. The series shares characters, but each book stands alone, which means you can dive right in without worrying about reading order.
Geissinger knows how to hook you — this one even won the HOLT Medallion for Best Erotic Romance, and honestly? Well deserved.
💋 Plot Summary (Full Spoilers!)
Natalie “Nat” Peterson is an art teacher in Lake Tahoe still reeling from her fiancé David’s disappearance five years ago. Her best friend Sloane — snarky, fearless, and allergic to commitment — is sick of watching Nat mope and decides she needs to get back out there.
Cue Kage Porter, the dangerously sexy new neighbor who just bought the house next door… in cash. 💵
He’s quiet, muscular, tattooed, and radiates “touch me and die” energy. Naturally, Sloane dares Nat to talk to him. He rejects her (twice), but sparks fly anyway.
Soon, fate — or maybe lust — keeps throwing them together. When Kage shows up while Nat’s trying on her old wedding dress (awkward timing, perfect tension), it’s game over. From there, it’s steamy glances, sharp banter, and chemistry hot enough to melt a Tahoe snowbank.
Then comes the twist: Kage is no ordinary neighbor. He’s actually Kazimir Portnov, second-in-command of the Bratva, the Russian mafia. His job? To hurt and kill people who cross them. His mission? Find David — who betrayed the Bratva, stole millions, and turned government witness.
Kage was supposed to torture Nat for information and then kill her.
Instead, he falls in love. (Oops.)
Meanwhile, Sloane meets Stavros, another member of the Bratva (and walking thirst trap). Together, the four of them become this strangely functional, violently glamorous friend group.
The story moves fast — there’s a shootout at a restaurant, a murder cover-up, a buried body, and enough spice to steam up your car windows if you’re listening in traffic.
Eventually, Nat discovers David is alive — hiding out in Panama and married. She’s furious at Kage for not telling her sooner, but their connection is too strong. They reunite (passionately, of course).
When the old mafia boss is killed, Kage becomes the new head of the Bratva, and Nat moves into his luxury New York penthouse, complete with a private art studio. Everything ends in power, passion, and perfectly unrepentant happily-ever-after vibes.
Until… the epilogue.
Because just when things are calm, Sloane gets kidnapped by the Irish mafia, setting up the next book in the series, Carnal Urges.
💭 My Take
This book is fast, filthy, funny, and addictive — like dark chocolate mixed with adrenaline.
I adored the chemistry between Nat and Kage — it’s pure fantasy, but Geissinger makes it work. There’s violence, yes, but also surprising tenderness. One moment you’re swooning, the next you’re gripping your steering wheel like, “Wait, did he just shoot someone mid-date?”
I also loved Sloane — she’s the chaotic best friend every dark romance needs.
Bottom line: Ruthless Creatures is the kind of book that doesn’t pretend to be anything but entertainment — and it’s five-star entertainment through and through.
📖 Final Rating: ⭐ 5 out of 5
Dark, steamy, completely unputdownable.
A perfect blend of danger, desire, and deliciously bad decisions.
