Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave
π Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave — Spoiler Review
⚠️ SPOILER WARNING!
This is your chance to bail if you don’t want to know what happens when family secrets + wine + romantic drama collide!
π My Rating
π 4 out of 5 stars — I certainly enjoyed this book! It’s romance drama but honestly reads like a mystery — I couldn’t stop flipping pages because I needed to know what was going on with Georgia’s mom, and of course, who Georgia was going to end up with. (Not shocked it was Jacob, but I loved the journey!)
Oh, and all the winemaking tidbits? Super interesting.
Did Georgia act like a spoiled brat? Yes. Did I still root for her? Also yes.
π Eight Hundred Grapes — Detailed Plot Summary (SPOILERS!)
π· Georgia’s Big Life Meltdown
Our heroine, Georgia Ford, is about to get married and move to London when she finds out her fiancΓ©, Ben, has a FOUR-AND-A-HALF-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER he forgot to mention. Nice, Ben. Real nice.
Cue Georgia fleeing back to her family’s vineyard in Sonoma County for comfort... only to discover her family has more secrets than barrels of wine.
π The Family Drama
When Georgia arrives:
✅ Her parents are secretly separated.
✅ Her mom is dating a guy named Henry Morgan.
✅ Her dad is secretly selling the family vineyard (The Last Straw) to Jacob McCarthy (cue romantic tension).
✅ Her twin brothers, Finn and Bobby, hate each other because oops, Finn has feelings for Bobby’s wife, Margaret.
π₯ Georgia, Fixer of All the Things (or not)
Georgia tries to fix everything while ignoring her own crumbling love life. She confronts Jacob about the vineyard sale and, of course, ends up falling for him. Meanwhile, Ben shows up (because why not add more stress?) with adorable little Maddie and baggage galore — including his movie star ex, Michelle Carter, who wants Ben back.
π© Everything Explodes
➡️ Ben waffles about his future.
➡️ Bobby finds out about Finn + Margaret’s drunken kiss = brother brawl.
➡️ Georgia’s passion for winemaking reignites as she scrambles to save the vineyard.
And just when Georgia thinks maybe she and Ben can patch things up? Michelle drops in like a bomb.
π The Ending
A vineyard fire, a storm, and dad’s second heart attack force everyone to grow up:
✅ Dad survives and recommits to Mom (Jen).
✅ Mom dumps Henry.
✅ Finn + Bobby make peace.
✅ Georgia + Ben amicably break up (finally).
And the best part? Jacob offers Georgia the original 10 acres her dad bought, and she says yes. Time for her own vineyard, her own path, and her own grapes.
