Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

๐Ÿ“– Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover – My First Hoover, and I’m Hooked!

Can you believe this was my first Colleen Hoover book? I know, right?! She’s literally a bestseller machine—dominating the charts with her emotionally charged romances—and somehow I’d never cracked one open until now. After watching It Ends With Us, I figured it was time. And wow. I am officially a CoHo fan. ๐Ÿ™Œ

⭐️ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Series: Maybe Series (#1)

TV Adaptation: In development!

๐Ÿงก The Premise

Maybe Someday introduces us to Sydney Blake, a college student with a love of music, a cheating boyfriend, and a life about to unravel. The story is equal parts romantic, angsty, and so easy to read—it hooked me immediately and never let go. If you’re a fan of fast-paced love stories with original songs and complicated emotions, this book is your new best friend.

๐ŸŽต Plot Summary (With All the Juicy Details!)

Sydney thinks life is pretty good. She’s in love with her boyfriend Hunter, lives with her best friend Tori, and enjoys chilling on her balcony listening to a mystery guy playing guitar across the courtyard. It turns out the guy is Ridge Lawson, a deaf musician who's incredibly talented—and kinda hot.

๐Ÿง  Fun twist: Sydney starts making up lyrics to Ridge’s guitar pieces, and when he notices, he reaches out by writing messages on flashcards from his balcony. (Yes, it’s as adorable as it sounds.)

But wait—it gets better/worse: On her birthday, Sydney finds out that Hunter and Tori have been hooking up behind her back. In a satisfyingly dramatic move, she punches them both (YES girl!) and storms out of the apartment. No place to go, soaking wet in the rain, and heartbroken.

That’s when Ridge sends his roommate Bridgette to bring her over. Ridge lives with Warren (funny, loyal, and loveably nosy) and has a spare room. He offers her a place to stay and a chance to write lyrics for his band, Sounds of Cedar, in exchange for rent.

๐ŸŽธ Things Get Complicated

Sydney and Ridge have crazy musical chemistry—and that chemistry is definitely not limited to music. There's just one major problem: Ridge has a long-time girlfriend, Maggie. Sydney doesn't find out about Maggie until after they've grown close.

Things heat up emotionally and physically. They even share a kiss, but Ridge pulls away and asks Sydney to move out. He’s committed to Maggie, who, by the way, is battling a life-shortening illness (cystic fibrosis). Ridge's loyalty to her makes sense, but it's clear he and Sydney have a connection that's hard to ignore.

๐Ÿซค Maggie eventually discovers Ridge’s feelings for Sydney through a message he wrote. She calls him out on his overprotectiveness, telling him that while she appreciates his care, it’s smothering her freedom. Maggie is strong, clear-headed, and ready to move on.

๐Ÿ’Œ The Grand Gesture

After weeks of no contact, Ridge sneaks back into Sydney’s life with help from Warren. They kiss—but Sydney, still healing, tells him she needs time.

Eventually, Ridge plans a concert filled with new songs written for her. Warren makes sure Sydney is there. Ridge performs, signs to her that he loves her, and Sydney finally signs back: “I love you.” Cue all the swoons. ๐Ÿฅน

๐Ÿ’ฌ Final Thoughts

This book had me grinning, crying, and rooting for every character—even the side ones! I loved the music integration, the slow-burn romance, and the refreshing twist of having a deaf love interest who communicates and loves just as powerfully as anyone else. Colleen Hoover’s writing is accessible, addictive, and emotionally satisfying.

This might not be her most famous book, but I’m telling you—if this is the "warm-up act," I can’t wait to read her hits. (And yes, I’m diving into Maybe Not and Maybe Now next!)
