πŸ“– The Silent Patient — Detailed Plot Summary (SPOILERS!)

πŸ–Œ Meet Alicia Berenson

Alicia, a famous painter, shoots her husband Gabriel in the head five times, slashes her wrists, and… stops speaking. For six years. Zero words. Just one haunting self-portrait titled ALCESTIS (Greek tragedy fans, rejoice).

🧠 Enter Theo Faber

Theo, a forensic psychotherapist with a few issues of his own, lands a job at The Grove (the hospital where Alicia is held). His mission? To unlock Alicia’s mind and get her talking.

Alicia’s Diary + Theo’s Life

The story alternates between Theo’s narration and Alicia’s diary. Meanwhile, Theo spirals about his wife Kathy’s affair (spoiler: she’s cheating with Gabriel 😬). Theo turns stalker-lite, following Kathy and her mystery man.

πŸ•΅ Theo’s “Investigation”

Theo interviews everyone — Alicia’s family, neighbors, her shady old therapist Christian — piecing together the truth about her silence and that alleged stalker who haunted her before Gabriel’s death.

πŸ’₯ THE BIG TWIST

Hold on to your chair.

Theo? Theo was Alicia’s stalker.
Theo broke into their house, tied up both Alicia and Gabriel, and gave Gabriel the worst choice ever: die or let Alicia die. Gabriel chose himself (to live). Theo left, satisfied, but Alicia, shattered by Gabriel’s betrayal (and childhood trauma of feeling unwanted by her dad), grabbed a gun and finished the job.

😢 The Aftermath

Theo gives Alicia a lethal morphine dose (because tying up and traumatizing her wasn’t enough). Alicia writes it all down in a final diary entry before slipping into a coma. The police get the diary, and Theo’s about to get what’s coming.
Moral of the story: don’t trust the therapist who shows too much interest in your case.
